The abuse of language is present in so much of our discourse.
Terms like DEI while concrete enough stand in for policies as different as being inclusive in hiring to shutting down gifted programs for public school kids. Same term stands in for wildly different actions and so people talk past each other in their general support for or antagonism against DEI. Yet if the language was more concrete they might general agree on the actual policies at play.
The dehumanization of the people who disagree is a big part of this whole thing.
Dishonesty and miscommunication are the cause of all conflict, and dishonesty is always driven by the desire for status. Social climbers commit every atrocity.
The thing that kills me is that every religion is about beating back the ego, and destroying the emotional drive for status. Then people use religious texts dishonestly to do their social climbing.
Im reminded of my younger days “debating” people on Internet forums. So often these arguments would break down into disagreements about the meaning of words and citations to a dictionary. Even when discussing in good faith clear communication can be hard
Thank you for articulating this so clearly. They now equate breast augmentation surgery for a 23-year-old female with a double mastectomy for a confused but physically health teenager. They say they both procedures are "gender affirming" when one of them is simply "sex denying."
